Serengueti National Park (Tanzania)

TYPE OF ECOSYSTEM

It is found in a torrid zone, exactlly in a grassland (savanah).


BIOTOPE


GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION

The park covers 14,763 km² (5,700 square miles) of grassland plains and savanna as well as riverine forest and woodlands. The park lies in the north of the country, bordered to the north by the national Tanzania and Kenyan border, where it is continuous with the Masai Mara National Reserve.

GEOLOGY

A lot of fossils have been found in this national park.
There are Slate,Schist,Gneis,Quartizte.

CLIMATE AND TEMPERATURES

It has temperatures around 25 ºC during summer, and around 15ºC. It has dry,wet seasons, and warm temperatures all around the year.From june to october,especially the nights,are colder moments.





PRECIPITATION

The pricipal seasons of rainfall are from march to may, and with short rainfall from october to november.It falls 508 mm in the plains and 1200 mm in the coasts of the Victory Lake.

WILDLIFE

In the fauna there are zebras,giraffes,gazelles and lions.
In the flora there are grass,shrubs,some trees and high grass.

WHY IS THE PARK THREATENED?



The park is threatened because there are a lot of furtives hunters.The hunts especially elephants,buffalos and black rhinoceros.
Since 1957, a lot of furtive hunters have been arrested by the authority.
The main presence of security patrol against furtives hunters on Serengeti (Tanzania) have led to arrest a lot of ilegal furtive hunters, and repopulate some threatened species,such as the leopard.
